How To Test An Outlet With A Multimeter

One of the most common test you will perform with your digital multimeter, is testing a power outlet. Although it may look simple, it is an easy mistake to make if you accidentally insert the multimeter probe into the wrong hole. Therefore, it is vital that you know a few things about a common electrical outlet before you begin. The left side of the outlet, with the longer hole, is the neutral hole. The right side with the shorter hole is to live or "hot" side. the round hole at the bottom, is the ground conductor.
